Artist Statement

The focus of my art is the life lessons that we learn from ourselves, the basis of which come from my own experiences and ideas. The subjects that I paint are quite small, however I exaggerate their size to stress that there is something more behind them. The smallness of the ideas and the events are miniscule compared to what I’m actually walking away with; knowledge and growth for myself.

One of the best parts, to me is the confusion that comes with the process. I think the thought is what does it, trying to break through the subject is the hardest. Asking questions: Why did I choose you? What more can you mean to me than just appearance? How can I exploit you? My process consists of sitting and staring, or walking, or pacing or smiling insanely. It is all a puzzle in my head that is layered and layered upon; I reveal that in the end product. Ideas start to break down, sometimes stopping at a complete dead-end, it has to be rewritten, it has to be rethought, and it has to make sense to me: this is vital.

Something happened here, something big. You are getting what it looked like after the smoke cleared, after I raided the place of its nutrition and left.
